The trailer for a new TV series called ‘Dhoop Ki Dewaar’ jointly produced by Indian and Pakistani teams has undermined Pakistan’s state narrative and whitewashed the Indian occupation of Kashmir. The script for the show was okayed by the ISPR in January 2019, a month before Indian border tension started.
There is anger amongst Pakistanis online was visible as many were calling it ‘Aman Ki Asha 2.0’. With continuing ethnic cleaning and demographic change in Kashmir, people are questioning if it is right for the ISPR backed TV show to be white washing the Indian army.
A defence analyst stated that “ISPR hired the best team of Pakistani actors, writers, directors to produce a show on Indian narrative of ‘peace’ for Indian platform nullifying the principled stance on Kashmir, humanizing occupational forces of India. If there’s a suicide in 5th GW doctrine, this is it.”
Asif Ghafoor was the DG of ISPR at the time this project was given the green light. It has been reported by several sources within defence circles that he was an incompetent person. The ISPR has failed to convey the state’s narrative to its own English-language journalists, it can only dream of influencing foreign journalists. The ISPR is failing at fifth generation warfare and it needs serious reform.
